Request #7: Honerva dealing with Zarkon’s death

Well, she isn’t dealing. Beware to stand in her way from now on.

We never thought this couple’d end up like this. But still hope that they’ll be resurrected and redeemed somehow TT__TT TT__TT

It just occurred to me that I really hope someone warned poor Sam about the reception he’ll be given by the Garrison when he lands on Earth…

You know, I’ve actually been scratching my head over this one since I saw the season?

On one hand the Garrison treated Shiro so badly when he first came back, but on the other hand the fact that he was joking around about it with Sam before he left would imply that he bears no grudge? And by extension would imply that what they put Shiro through was pretty much standard procedure for a situation like that

Let’s remember, Shiro crashed on Earth completely out of nowhere when everyone believed him dead, delirious from panic and probably in a bad state physically, with an alien arm and raving about aliens and Voltron. It does actually make sense that in those conditions the Garrison protocol would be to isolate the unknown and run a series of tests to determine if it’s really Shiro, if he might be dangerous or a threat, if he might be carrying diseases that could decimate the human population, etc. It’s cold but it does make sense, and I think Shiro realizes that in hindsight, hence the joking

So it’s a possibility that their reception for Sam would be completely different because Sam would be arriving in a perfectly calm state, he would probably radio ahead to announce his arrival and explain the situation, and the Garrison might be more prepared for him because they’ve already seen that Shiro was alive so perhaps the other members of the Kerberos mission are too

As much as we like to demonize the Garrison and call them shady for how they covered up the Kerberos mission and how they treated Shiro, they’re still a military institution with a mandate of protecting humanity’s safety and interests and viewed like that, the way they treated Shiro makes more sense as simply following protocol for when an unknown, potentially dangerous object falls from the sky, rather than being deliberately cruel or malicious. So I do think Sam’s reception will be quite different, but still that doesn’t exclude the possibility that the Garrison is a shady organization and they might just as easily imprison Sam to avoid him spreading what he knows

ok but consider: sam radios colleen before he lands and tells her everything before the garrison has a chance to do anything shady

exactly what I was saying. Even if they /do/ try to lock him up to keep their cover (because I do not trust they wouldn’t. sure they might not sedate him and tie him to a table but they are very commited to that “ nope everyone died” cover story) Sam can then be like “ oh well, thing is…My wife already knows. and she has instructions to leak everything I know to the press–with proof– in five minutes, unless I say otherwise, as do some other friends I took the liberty of contacting (the other paladin’s families) so don’t think you can just disappear her, too. we have a color coded phone tree. Now, as I was saying….”

Ooh I like this!
