Unfortunately, the worst has happened and Coco has gone missing.
He flew out an open door earlier this afternoon and we haven’t seen him since. We are in eastern Virginia, so we are getting the outskirts of hurricane Florence right now, so it is highly windy and may rain quite a lot, which is very bad for him.
We looked for him for about half an hour to an hour, but there is no sign of him.
I’m heartbroken, but doing what I can.
He is about 11 months old and a bit touch shy. If you live in the Norfolk area, please be on the look out for a male white faced cockatiel. Reference pic below. Shoot me a message if you find anything. Thanks.
Thank you all for reblogging and spreading awareness. No sign of him yet, but then again its about 2 am here. We will pick up the search again in the morning with flyers and call as many shelters and rescues as we can. I appreciate you all being supportive and helpful, even when all you can do is hit the reblog button. Every little thing matters.
A Message to my Followers who are going to be impacted by Hurricane Florence.
This hurricane is dangerous.
Please, take it seriously.
It is not just a thunderstorm.
Take it from someone who went through Katrina and saw the damage a hurricane can do when it sits and builds.
It changes entire landscapes.
It kills.
Get gas now. The gas stations will begin to either run out, or put a limit to how much gas you can get. Get it now while you can, because I remember distinctly the way the abandoned cars looked on the highway while we were evacuating.
Once that storm hits, the gas stations will shut down. There will be no gas for a week, at least.
You will be stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. Make sure your car is in good working order. The amount of cars left behind on the highway is astounding.
Bring your pets in case of flooding, don’t leave them behind or in a shelter.
Take a picture of every single thing in your house the way it is. Ever dresser. Everything. If it floods, this will help with the insurance.
Power will be out for a week, possibly more. Take anything that will spoil, eat it now/bring it with you/throw it out. You don’t want to come back to a house that is 80°+ inside with spoiled food. It smells disgusting. I know from first hand experience.
Pack as much clothes + whatever else you need as you can. You don’t know what you will be returning to, if anything at all. I hate to say it, but there were so many homes lost in Katrina in mg area to flooding & I didn’t even live in the Soup Bowl.
From what I’ve seen, the outer bands are strengthening. They’re red at this point. This hurricane is getting stronger, and it’s well built. There are no winds to tear it apart. It’s eye is holding together, and that’s terrifying. A well built storm like this one can ruin lives. It’s not a joke.
Please, please stay safe. Evacuate ASAP if you’re in the direct line.
Don’t wait until it is here. That is how you get killed. Do not evacuate in the middle of it. Don’t wait until last minute.
It is always better to be safe than sorry.
Please stay safe.
Listen to the news. Follow their advice.
Leave while you still can, before the highways get clogged up. Go as far in-land as you can. Leave the state entirely if you have to.
Alright alright alright back at it again with Hurricane info since Florence is gonna be bearing down on the Carolinas in a few days
Know your local shelters, just in case! IF YOU HAVE PETS BE AWARE OF THE ONES THAT ACCEPT PETS! Unfortunately not all of them do
Beware of price gouging! Especially on gas!
BE PREPARED FOR GAS STATIONS TO RUN OUT OF GAS!
SOMETHING TO ADD:
DO NOT ASSUME YOU’LL BE ABLE TO GET THINGS VIA PRIME RIGHT BEFORE THE STORM
I could not stress this more. It was a HUGE issue last year! Amazon can and WILL run out of things in their warehouses- INCLUDING FANS, BATTERIES, AND PORTABLE CHARGERS. And shipping will be delayed due to the storm! If there’s anything AT ALL you need from amazon via Prime order it ASAP. 3rd party sellers were gouging the shit out of stuff like fans just before Irma last year on amazon so if you want stuff and don’t want to pay and arm and a leg for it, GET IT NOW
Don’t bother with buying things like flour and eggs and milk! Don’t buy perishables! If you lose power they will do nothing for you!
Fill gallon freezer bags with water, seal them tightly with duct tape, and freeze them before the storm! If you lose power you’ll be able to toss them in your fridge to keep it cooler longer! You’ll also have extra emergency water if you need it
Do you collect books and let them sit on your shelf!?
WHAT IS THIS!? AMATEUR hOUR? OF FUCKING COURSE!
Do you spend WAAAAAAY too much money on books even though they’re totally worth it but holy fucking shit fifteen dollars is the median and why is the world so effortlessly cruel?
Who’s got two thumbs and an empty wallet! Yes yes and yes!
WELL HAVE I GOT A SOLUTION FOR YOU
Thriftbooks is an amazing online site that sells used books! These books are, for the most part, in great condition. I’ve used this website for everything from textbooks to fiction to everything else in between! It has a wide selection with an even wider selection of options per book!
You want softcover? They’ve got it! Hardcover? Of course! Audio? Why not!
Hell! They even sell the books in other languages!
You might say to me, humanity, why are you telling us this? We already have barnes and noble!
Because, my poor, naive friend, thriftbooks sells the majority of it’s books for under four dollars.
That’s right. You heard me. Under. Four. Dollars.
And right now, they’re having a huge deal!
2 books for $7
3 books for $10
4 books for $12
But wait! There’s more!
If you leave a book in your cart for long enough, chances are you’ll be alerted when a seller nearby, for a cheaper price, has the same book! You’ll get it cheaper and faster, with less waste of paper and time!
And prices change! That book that would have cost you $3.79 one day might be $3.45 the next, and man oh man isn’t that the best thing to see when you check up on your cart.
So what are you waiting for, book lovers! Go! Go shop!
Go and rule the world!
Be the book lovers I know you can be!
DID I MENTION THAT THERE’S FREE SHIPPING OVER 10 DOLLARS
DID I MENTION THAT THERE’S ALSO A COUPON CODE YOU CAN USE FOR A LIMITED TIME
type in the word “welcome” when you get to checkout and you’ll get 15% off!
DID I ALSO MENTION THAT THERE ARE READING REWARDS
AND THAT EVER $50 YOU SPEND THEY GIVE YOU $5 BACK.
guys
five dollars
on this site
is a book
that is the cost of an entire book
you’re literally getting a free book
I NEED Y’ALL TO SEE THIS SIDE BY SIDE THOUGH
So to prove my very real point, I went to Barnes and Noble and picked out some of my favorites books that I already have on my shelves
(also, fyi, y’all should read these they’re bangin)
AND BECAUSE THE SHIPPING IS SO INSANE, IT WAS MEAN TO COME OUT TO $47.85 (and that’s at an online price, which discounts by a few dollars)
But with shipping, handling, and the extreme cost of books, my total came to this:
$72.30
Okay. Then I went onto thriftbooks and chose the same books in the same formats (hardcover, softcover, etc.)
Keep in mind that not all books are under $4 due to size, availability, how new they are to the world yada yadayada
But this was the final shopping cart.
Look.
Look at those lovely books.
My final check out price?
$21.86
AND THAT DOESN’T INCLUDE ANY OF THE AMAZING DISCOUNTS, DEALS, AND/OR PROMO CODES.
If you do the math, I saved $50.44.
And even if Barnes and Noble had given me that free shipping, I still would have saved $25.99. Do you know what that could buy you? That could buy you four more books on thriftbooks!
Thriftbooks fucking saved my broke college ass. And I’d encourage you all to use it if you can. Shipping may take 4-14 days, but I swear to god it’s worth every dollar that I would have burned.
THIS IS IN NO WAY AN ENCOURAGEMENT TO STOP SHOPPING AT BOOKSTORES. PLEASE DON’T. LOCAL BOOKSTORES ARE IMPORTANT AND VITAL AND SHOULD BE SUPPORTED!
I’m mostly making jabs at the big name companies, and honestly, my broke bookworm ass needs a break.
NOW YOU MAY ASK ME
HOW
HOW CAN IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!?
It can’t. There’s no way!
WELL YES IT FUCKING CAN, BOOK NERDS!
Did you ever think to yourself; I love to read. But I sure wish there was a way to read my own books while I multi-task by helping the environment, the economy, and the seemingly never-ending and growing gap between low-income schools and libraries and their availability to reading material all at the same time…
Well, there is.
It’s called shopping at Thriftbooks
And what’s more:
Boom.
Right there.
This place is fucking amazing as hell and you should use it as often as you possibly can.
Save the environment. Keep your mind running. Shop Thriftbooks.

The state of Kerala, India, is experiencing one of the worst floods since 1924. Over 20,000 houses have been damaged completely and 10,000 km of roads have been destroyed. Essential services have taken a hit, with shortages in medical supplies and drinking water reported from several places. A red alert has been issued in 11 of the 14 districts.
324 people have lost their lives since the rains started on May 29. Over half of them – 190 across 14 districts – have died in the last few days. Over 314,000 people have been moved to relief camps across the state with many more still missing or unreachable.
AnboduKochi is a non-profit organisation that has been one of the largest groups to provide relief support in Kochi, they need cash to transport all the donations they have been getting and make sure it gets to the relief camps.
keralarescue.in is an initiative by Govt. of Kerala, Kerala State IT Mission and IEEE Kerala Section for effective collaboration and communications between authorities, volunteers and public
Google has put out a consolidated and pin-dropped list of centres providing rescue ops, including shelters, food and water, medicine and essentials, volunteers, Jeep rescue and ambulances, among others.
In case you are looking for someone stranded in Kerala or have information about someone, use the Person Finder, which crowdsources information, to help.
Below are some ways to donate and help rebuild the lives of those affected.
The Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF)is 100% exempt from tax and “is an emergency assistance release mechanism granting immediate relief to families and individuals distressed by calamity, loss of life due to accidents and chronic diseases.”
Amazon lets users donate to one of three NGOs: Goonj, Habitat for Humanity and World Vision India. Once you select one of the three NGOs, you can choose what you want to donate by going through their wishlist
Please consider donating any amount of money you can. If you know of any more resources and ways to help, please add to this post.
Hi! I am not sure if any of my followers saw, but I’ve been
saying it is pretty bad for Kerala right now. (PS: I’m safe right now, and my
family has moved to shelters or high-level areas).
Just in case, if you didn’t know, Kerala is a small state in the
south-west part of India. We are mainly known for our cynicism, sarcasm, and
our love of going to “The Gulf”. We are that part of India that had Muslims before the Mughals Invasion and Christians before the British Invasion
and lived more-or-less in harmony with each other throughout. We love our
socialism, our love of eating beef, and generally trying
to resist the majoritarian principles of rest of the country.
And currently, Kerala is trembling under the fury of the
monsoon.
There has been incessant rain for the past three weeks, and
most parts of Kerala are flooded. Till yesterday , 12 out of 14 districts were on
Red Alert. All 44 rivers on this small strip of land was overflowing.
As the rains continued, most lakes, reservoirs, and dams got filled and 33
dams were opened. And the outflow of these dams combined with rainwater rushed through towns and cities alike.
There has been landslides, sudden top soil movement and road
collapses throughout the state, but especially in hilly areas. Most bridges,
roads (including National Highways) are either completely destroyed or flooded beyond
use.
Ten thousands of homes have been inundated and families have
moved away. People and entire cities
& towns have been marooned.
This man is inside his home; neck-deep in water [he made this
video and shared it through social media in an effort to get noticed and
rescued]:
The Kochi International Airport is flooded and would be shut
down for ten days. Railways are jammed and most roads are flooded. Most dams are open and cities have turned into lakes and
rivers. The fact that there are water disputes with neighbouring states and state-level
& national-level politics involved doesn’t help the common people of Kerala
either.
This is not a water-tank over-flowing.
It’s an entire dam that is overflowing
(the Peringalkutthu dam, to be precise):
.
The death toll is currently estimated to be about 300 and over 3 lakh individuals have been displaced.
It is only because of high inter-connectivity and an educated
population that the death toll has been under control.
And this is just the beginning:
Those who are rescued has to deal with extensive
property damage.
Farmers have to deal with huge crop loss.
Most rescue shelters are running out of food and
medicines.
Food shortage will continue even after the floods
as most of our food comes from Tamil Nadu/Andhra Pradesh, and the roads and railways connecting
the two states are flooded.
Roads, Bridges and Communication channels will
have to be rebuilt.
Outbreaks of water-borne diseases as water will
get contaminated
Outbreaks of mosquito-born diseases like Dengue
fever as stagnant water persists.
Large sections of Kerala is flooded. Kochi has come to a halt.
Seriously, we are in big trouble. So,if you can donate,
please do. Small acts of kindness goes a long way. If not, please signal boost.
My commission sheet was a little confusing and cluttered, so I copied someone else’s way of presenting commissions just so it’s more clear X’D I hope they do not mind.
Anyway;
20 / 08 / 2018
Commissions are OPEN!
SLOTS
OPEN OPEN OPEN OPEN
As I am no currently working on the show at this moment, I need income for things like food, petrol, my meds, bills, etc etc. So We’re opening some commission slots!
Because my time is more limited than it was in the past, I’m not offering as wide a variety as I use to, and just for now, I am only doing single characters at the moment. I will also have to be strict as to what kind of commissions I am willing to accept. I will accept what I am offering here. Not character sheets, not headers or banners. What you see is what I’m offering. Also note rates have gone up as my time has become more limited and my needs have increased.
Additional Info:
– Paypal Only
– no NS//FW, hate art of any kind, I reserve the right to turn down commissions I am uncomfortable with.
– References will be needed for characters/OCs I’m not familiar with (Pictures of just text is fine)
– I can provide a “Working size” version of any picture (usually 300dpi) as long as it is not used for profit.
– OCs/Furry/Ponysonas/Self Inserts/Monstersonas/AUs are all ok! I do not believe in Cringe Culture and will draw any character, OC or ‘sona you’d like!
– I am ok with keeping commissioners names anonymous if asked! I have done this with multiple people who want to stay anonymous on their commissioned pieces.
– Payment will be asked for AFTER the commission is finished. This is a fail-safe for me in case something happens and I am unable to complete a commission.
– Please contact me if you want a spot via IM.
– Please do not send me messages asking “How is the commission coming? / Are you almost done?” as this makes me less inclined to work on things. a lame excuse, but a true one.
– Commissions will be posted publicly to tumblr unless asked not to by the client.
– Clients must please ask before reposting commissioned pieces to their own blogs/pages etc. However, using pieces they have commissioned for Avatars/headers is fine and you don’t need permission (although credit will be appreciated)
Once all slots have been filled Commissions will be closed until I have completed everything. At which time I will evaluate things and decide whether to open them again or not.
Sorry if that all sounds very stand-offish but I’ve been burned quite a few times ^^; And I hope that will help answer questions you guys might have. If it doesn’t. feel free to message me with any other things you might want to know! Despite how scary those rules sound I like to think I’m pretty open and don’t mind talking or answering things 🙂 (If you’re shy, you can ask questions via anon as well)
Four years ago, the owners of Scarecrow Video brought all their staff members together to deliver some bad news. Like video stores across the country, the business was struggling. Its rentals and purchases had decreased dramatically as customers flocked to online streaming services. The owners were writing their own checks just to keep the business running, but they couldn’t do it anymore. It looked like they might have to part with their collection of over 130,000 videos—one of the largest publicly available video archives on earth.
[…]
So the staff came together to pitch their own proposal. The idea was simple: They would keep the collection together, in the same space and open to the public, but transform the business into a nonprofit. After some back and forth over details, the owners agreed to donate everything in the store—the films and the shelves they were stored on—to Scarecrow Video, the nonprofit.
The result is something like a museum mixed with a video store. A team of 20 volunteers devotes hours each week to collect movie returns and restock the shelves. Most evenings, they hold one of their many community outreach programs for the public, such as the Children’s Hour, an event with the public library across the street that features a series of stories, videos, and activities for kids that center on a specific theme.
[…]
Four years later, Scarecrow Video hasn’t just survived, it’s done quite well. It took the staff less than a week to raise the $100,000 they needed to get the nonprofit off the ground, with donations coming from as far away as Australia, Japan, and Bulgaria. And each year when they ask for more money, they’ve been able to get it from a band of loyal patrons.
This is interesting–libraries (at least around where I live) often carry DVDs as well as books and Internet access, but this is the first time I’ve heard of a museum specifically for movies and TV that’s focused on being as open to the public and accessible as possible. Places like these will only become more important as time goes on!
