I think it’s pretty funny that Lance, a super chatty guy, unlocked a soundwave cannon

radioactivesupersonic:

But see the sound cannon is really fantastically meta for Lance if you look at its diverse functionality!

Its first use is as a weapon- but it can also be used to transmit signals (as seen in s5e1) and discern one’s surroundings (s2e10 and s3e3).

Lance talks to people. In particular he’s actually very good at getting information from people through conversation- look back at s1e1 and how smoothly Lance pulls off that “That right? All the way out to Kerberos?” and drops the act to directly question Pidge about it. In s4e4 we also see that out of the team, Lance is the only one who asserts obvious acting chops the entire time, and in s3e1 we see that Lance and Hunk were both a big hit on Puig- seemingly because of how much they engaged with their culture.

In many regards, Lance is good at talking. He’s good at being reassuring, even in fairly dramatic senses (him inspiring Keith and Allura in s3e2 and s4e6 respectively, and comforting Shiro in s5e6) he’s probably the best at identifying and discussing his own feelings before they cause serious damage to himself and the team’s synergy, he’s quick to acknowledge others (“Hunk, you big gassy genius!” in s1e1, in s4e3 to Pidge “Were you just waiting to show that off until your brother got here?”, in s5e3 sticking up for Shiro “You both are under a lot of stress.”) and really good at reading others’ emotions.

So describing Lance as someone who uses his voice as a versatile tool to communicate and achieve clarity is completely accurate. There’s a reason in the high fantasy AU I write, I specifically put Lance’s innate magical talent in his throat.
