Excuse you, but Americans aren’t purely white either. Americans are every and any race. Americans have culture too. It’s not a melting pot because cultures aren’t lost in us. It’s a salad bowl. Cultures are welcomed and celebrated by us.

Anyone can be American.

Thanks for adding American cultures, it’s the first time I’ve seen someone add it in.

It got even better

Regressives only think white people have no culture because they’ve been coddled by “white culture” their entire lives

The asshole and I were both made by a couple white guys.

Actually depending on whether or not the social justice crowd are considering jewish people as white today, basically the entire comics industry is from white americans.

Anyone who genuinely thinks that the White folk has no culture isn’t paying attention OR just completely takes it for granted.

thechekhov:

*this is especially important: these days on Tumblr there’s a wonderful atmosphere of being able to talk openly about your mental illness or your struggle. And that’s great! But there’s a difference between sharing in order to help yourself and other people and sharing just because you have no other coping mechanisms. As much as you’re able, try to work on developing a different outlet. People aren’t qualified to be your therapist because they’re nice to you a couple of times. Please remember that they have lives too, and their job is not to make you feel better or pity you, no matter how difficult your life is.

And last but not least:

But…

I really don’t have a way to better this.

Your interests are your own. I can’t advise anyone to change their interests to fit in with a certain group of people – that’s stupid, and actually quite damaging to your sense of self.

Instead, I would recommend that, maybe if you feel like your topics of conversation are falling flat with this group of people, you move on to other, greener pastures. There are bound to be places where your ideas mesh better with an audience.

And of course – try to be considerate about what you say and how you say it.

Sometimes, what might seem like a harmless comment to you might be a very discomforting thought to another person. I recently had a conversation on a forum with a guy who was telling me that his headcanon was that Pearl (from SU) would soon get a male love interest who loved mechanics and weapons next, and that would be her best arc, because she would finally get a ‘healthy’ love interest.

His intentions were good, but he was entirely unaware of how cringey this kind of thing was to a bunch of (probably queer) people, who have spent their entire lives being told that the only ‘good’ character development for them would be to get a ‘male love interest’. No one wanted to be the jerk to say “fuck off, we don’t want that to happen” but everyone was answering him in a flat way, trying to discourage the discussion further. Instead of picking up on the hint, he bulldozed on, thinking he was having a ‘lively conversation’ which was, in fact, in its late stages of death.

I know I’ll probably get a few messages to this saying: What about people on the Autistic Spectrum? Sometimes, people can’t pick up social cues or ‘hints’. And if that’s the case, it’s incredibly difficult to understand why you’re not having any luck communicating despite your best efforts.

I feel that on a person level, please believe me. I made this infograph for THAT VERY REASON. Because I WAS that awkward kid who didn’t pick up on hints well. In fact, I still have trouble talking to people. If any of you have had the misfortune of being my conversational partner, you’ll know that I tend to be overly blunt and come off as very unfriendly. It’s something that I, myself, am working on currently in order to grow into a better person. It’s a struggle in progress, but I am aiming towards the progress side, and I just wanted to help out others while I was at it.

Architectural Nomenclature for D&D and Authors

noblecrumpet-dorkvision:

Here is a series of diagrams I made while I was making the D&D 5e Masonry profession stuff. It’s basically a helpful guide to help describe parts of buildings, windows, and doors for us non-architects out there. Use these to narrate your dungeon using accurate descriptors, or be inspired to decorate the dungeon with these new terms! You could make corbels that are shaped like owlbears, or socles carved like dragon’s claws. Especially useful to describe where secrets can be hidden, like the lintel of a door or pilaster of a wall. I recall needing to look up the term “lintel” when there was a secret lever built into one in the Shrine of Tamoachan, so there’s definitely a use for it.

Keep in mind that some of these parts can be used for other objects, particularly furniture. For instance, a table can have an entablature and cornice, just like a roof can. A pediment can exist above a door or window. A reliquary can have crockets and pinnacles like a cathedral.

I learned a lot about architecture while researching stuff for Mason’s Tools, and wanted to share it with you guys! Remember that a wide breadth of knowledge can help you become a better overall DM!

Other Decorative Terms:

Urn: Yes they put them on buildings, not just in dungeons.

image

Festoon: A wreath or garland hanging from two points. If it depicts cloth it is known as a swag. So yea.

Dentils: Originating as the ends of rafters, these became decoration that is repeated below a roof’s cornice. Their name means “teeth.”

Acanthus: This is the leaf that you find in a lot of architecture, especially as the capitals of Corinthian columns.

Diapering: Weird name, but basically anything that is a repeated pattern usually based on a grid that breaks up an otherwise flat space. Apparently the name comes from the Greek dia (cross/diagonal) and aspros (white)

Fleur-de-lis: If you weren’t familiar with it already, that’s what this is called:

Well that about wraps it up for today. Hope everyone was able to learn something today!

Time for some kitchen charts to help you adult better 😉

Cause I know a lot of my followers get stuck on some of these.

Reblogging because charts like these are always useful, especially when trying to convert between US Cups (volume measure) and oz / gr (weight measure).

Not having grown up with them, cups have always seemed an inaccurate way to measure anything coarse: liquids, flour, sugar, no probs, but surely 1 cup of (say) whole almonds is going to be a smaller amount than 1 cup of ground almonds, because of the air spaces.

And then there’s the “pint’s a pound the world around” business… Imperial pints are bigger, 20 fl.oz rather than 16.

@dduane has a set of US Cups, and just for fun we also got a set of these amusing spoons. What I really want are measures for Some, A Bit and most important, Far Too Much.

Um, cilantro and coriander are the same thing? Why do they have two different rows for the same thing in the spice/herb table?

When it’s “cilantro” they’re usually talking about the leafy part of the plant, and when it’s “coriander” they mean the seeds.

I’m…I’m sorry, I just this minute realized that there are people out there who have no idea that Heinz Doofenshmirtz is the best fictional father out there. You guys don’t mind if I bombard your entire dashboard with proof right? Excellent.

The point is that Heinz Doofenshmirtz is the greatest fictional father out there and anyone who says otherwise was hit by a Lie-inator.

The Radioactive Man Who Returned To Fukushima To Feed The Animals That Everyone Else Left Behind

Naoto Matsumura is the only human brave enough to live in Fukushima’s 12.5-mile exclusion zone

image

He fled at first but returned to take care of the animals that were left behind

image

He returned for his own animals at first, but realized that so many more needed his help, too

image

Matsumura, who is 55 years old, knows that the radiation is harmful, but he “refuses to worry about it”

image

“They also told me that I wouldn’t get sick for 30 or 40 years. I’ll most likely be dead by then anyway, so I couldn’t care less”

image

Matsumura discovered that thousands of cows had died locked in barns

image
image

He also freed many animals that had been left chained up by their owners

image

Many of them now rely on him for food

image

The government has forbidden him from staying, but that doesn’t stop him either

image

He started in 2011 and is still going strong 4 years later

image

He relies solely on donations from supporters to work with and feed the animals

image

His supporters are calling him the ‘guardian of Fukushima’s animals’

image

The man clearly has a sense of humor as well

This hero deserves way more notes.

There should be a way to donate to this guy

Actually I spent some time and I found a link to donate to him. Click here to be sent to a website where you can donate to his efforts

This guy is amazing, and reminds me of the spirits of Miyazaki’s films…it’s like he’s the guardian spirit of Fukushima’s abandoned animals

If ever there is a definition of kindhearted badass, it is this dude. Please share and donate.
