(While I tried to include the most helpful resources I could here (i.e., resources that lend themselves to one-on-one communication, individual reading, etc.), there are plenty of other great resources, including regional resources, listed in these links. Some of the resources are specific to men and others aren’t, but they are all helpful for male survivors.)

I’m so tired of every show that takes place in the past (wild west, medieval, pirates etc) ALWAYS having so much sexual violence towards women like writers can cry “oh it’s realism” all you want but it’s very transparent how realism only applies when you want to hurt women on screen. If we’re talking staying realistic, why doesn’t everyone have brown teeth? Or bad skin? Or dying of dysentery? Just admit y’all want an excuse to brutalize women on screen lol
Its a cheap and easy way to show how evil the characters are, since nothing done to a man is considered nearly as horrible
Yeah it’s not a sign of showing they hate women. It’s a sign that something bad happening to women is seen as a special kind of evil while the same thing happening to a man is just normal.
Either way shows should just stop doing that.
Remember the fuss when Sansa was raped in GOT (in the modern understanding).
Remember how those same people had no problem with men being tortured, castrated, murdered, burned alive, and so on. Even when this was in numbers in the thousands, tens of thousands if you include battles.
It’s not that women are overly subjected to sexual violence. It is that you only care when women are the victims.
I don’t think there’s ever been a “wild west, medieval, pirates etc” movie in which women are hurt or killed in anything even close to comparable to the same numbers as men in the same film.
The basic rule is: whenever you see a woman die in a film she must have a face, humanity, emotions, pain: her death must count.
Whereas every action movie you see will have literally hundreds of faceless men dying, shot, stabbed, blown apart in front of you. But you’re not expected to feel anything one way or another about that, and indeed you don’t.
All human beings evolved to put the safety and security of women (and children) before that of men. This is a universal constant found in every known society, at every point in history, and so exploiting that by suggesting a (real or imagined) potential threat to women has historically been one of the most reliable ways to manipulate men to do whatever it is you want them to do (such as go to war, for instance).
Dramatists realised long, long ago that if you want to quickly establish who the ‘bad guy’ is onscreen, the easiest thing to do is have them indicate their intention to Rape The Girl. Or, indeed, make them rape the Girl. Once either of these things happens, any moral uncertainty or queasiness the audience might otherwise be troubled by is immediately removed and they can comfortably switch off their brain, and settle back into their passenger seat for the ride. Every single person watching the film now knows any violence directed towards that fictional man, no matter how horrific or barbaric, is justified and hence something to be enjoyed and applauded, guilt-free.
Game of Thrones is a very good example of this whole phenomenon, because of how enormously popular it is to both sexes, how insanely high its violence count against men is – sexual and otherwise – and how shaking snowflake teenage girls were quite happy to eat popcorn through literally days and days of that but then went into full meltdown only when one of the few female characters who actually got hurt in the whole show had a particularly bad wedding night.
Feminism really is some kind of mental illness, that forces the sufferer to perceive genocidal hatred of women in manspreading, mansplaining and office air conditioning but blinds them from being able to see the mountain of male corpses and homeless men they walk past every day on the way to get their latte.
Burn it with fire, I say. The world will never again be sane and happy until it’s gone for good.
You think I read a single word of that
Of course not, but thanks for reblogging it so all your followers could.
