THE MEANING BEHIND DAY6′S “SHOOT ME” MV

brianskangs:

remember the tagline for this album is: “VICIOUS WORDS HURT LIKE A BULLET”, and the meaning for this phrase is pretty self explanatory

italics: scene description | bold: scene interpretation

prior to this scene, the lady and guy were both engaged in a heated conversation. then the lady used her hand as a gun and fired at the guy, as seen by the bullet holes on his shirt, implying that things started to go downhill and the words used were pretty nasty, and the guy felt hurt by them like as if he got shot by a bullet.

while this whole ordeal was going on, there were people at the back looking on, and they then started to join the lady as they too pointed guns and fired at the guy. here, the lady is also seemingly smirking in triumph as if she just won this whole battle now that she has people “backing” her up. whenever someone starts saying mean things to another, you will find that other people will also join in and start hating on the person without even knowing the whole story, hence causing more hurt to the victim.

fast forward, it seems like the guy has had enough as he also held up a gun and aimed it at the culprits, who looked really taken aback by his action. they thought he will also be firing bullets back at them.

but surprise surprise, what the guy shot was a splash of colours. if you didn’t notice, the colour of the beginning of the mv were in slightly muted colours, everything looked darkish. but after the guy’s shot, the scene brighten up a lot and you could see the colours present visibly. this suggests that instead of using vicious words like the lady, the guy chose to instead use “colourful” (positive) words. just because someone was mean/has been mean to you, doesn’t mean that you have to retaliate back with vicious words, otherwise it will be a never ending cycle of hate. choose to be kind with your words. hate will only bring negativity to one’s life, whereas kindness brings a positive light to life.

towards the end, you can see the remorse on the lady’s face upon seeing the guy’s tearful face. in the beginning, you can see the malice in her eyes clearly as she was set on hurting the guy. the others seemed to be checking their bodies for any signs of bullet holes, and didn’t find any. this goes to show that once those vicious words leave your mouth, there is no way you can take them back and undo the damage and hurt you have inflicted on the other party.

moral of the mv? be careful with your words. words are the most powerful weapon, and can hurt like a bullet. words have a lasting effect on people, and will affect their emotions. the words you choose to use can either inflict hurt, or spread love. choose wisely. be kind, always.

thanks for coming to my ted talk and remember to support day6 by purchasing their album and watching the mv!!!

Fear Of Loss

Of all the things that
scare you, loss can seem like the most terrifying. At times, you
have thought about it with such dread that it’s felt overwhelming. This
type of fear is related to the potential pain associated with no longer
having something or someone of emotional significance to you. You worry
about losing people you love, pleasures you enjoy, and circumstances
that make you feel comfortable. Ask yourself, “What am I scared of
losing?” It’s all too easy to go through our days, making choices,
without recognizing the underlying feelings that motivate them.
